Former world champion and British contender Amir " King " Khan ( 26-3-0 ) faces tricky Mexican-American boxer " King " Carlos Molina ( 17-0-0 ) in his Welterweight ( 147lb ) debut on Saturday December 15th at a to be determined venue in the United States live on Showtime Boxing presented by Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions.
Khan, still young at age 25 will be making many changes for this contest. First off it will be his first fight since he controversially left Hall Of Fame trainer Freddie Roach a couple weeks ago and hired 2011 Trainer of the year Virgil Hunter. In this fight it will also be his debut at the 147 lb weight limit.
At 147 lbs Khan will need a new beginning after a disappointing Knockout loss of his WBA title to hungry Puerto Rican-American Danny Garcia in July and before that a close decision loss to Contender Lamont Peterson shedding his IBF crown. Khan is bad with power, infighting, and pressure as proved in his last two. Molina boxes well but doesn't have the power of Garcia or the relentless pressure and great inside game of Peterson. So that is a minor advantage.
Molina also needs this win. It's a move up in weight to 140lbs for the young prospect in his toughest test and on his biggest stage. To hit the scene as a top contender a win or at least a good showing here is vital as well.
This bout, Khan Vs. Molina will be televised LIVE on Showtime's World Championship Boxing presented by Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions from the United States. A large fight card will be announced soon with tickets!
