Yesterday promoter Kathy Duva of " Main Events " made it official that Cuban power puncher Odlanier Solis will indeed not get the opportunity against Polish Boxing star Tomasz " Goral " Adamek ( 47-2-0 ) and it will instead be recent Main Events signee and former undisputed Crusierweight champion Steve " USS " Cunningham ( 25-4-0 )!
First off let me say that Adamek-Cunningham 1, back in 2008 when both men were a bit closer to their respective physical primes was one of the most underrated fights in recent boxing history. It was back when they were the two top Crusierweights as David Haye was getting set to start his Heavyweight title run. Cunningham's outstanding boxing ability was pitted against and heart, power and grit of the Polish beast. Adamek edged a close Split-Decision that did also punctuate well that there was much unfinished business between the two. And a rematch is finally happening!
Both men are veteran fighters, while physical fading and aging is clearly inevitable since the first battle they have gained much maturity in the ring since struggling in bad losses to Ukrainian Heavyweight great Vitali Klitschko for Adamek and Hard hitters K. Wlodarczyk ( L 12, W 12 ) and Yoan Pablo Hernandez ( L 12, L 7 ) for Cunningham but despite that both men have picked up wins to fringe contenders since and are primed as they will ever be for a big final opportunity to take the top again.
Will it be Cunningham's durability and world class boxing scoring the upset or Adamek's leveled talent and power snatching away another win to Cunningham? Tune in live on NBC for an excellent card labeling boxing's return to network television! Tickets for this card are already on sale in Bethlehem, PA visit Peltzboxing.com for details!
The undercard is still in the works although minor preliminary and probably untelevised contests are scheduled between Prospect Niam Nelson ( 8-0-0 ) and Osnel Charles also newcomers Jerome Rodriguez ( 1-0-1 ) and Ivan Hernandez ( 0-1-0 )
