Blog: What the Golden Boy-HBO break means for you.

HBO expands to international waters.

This one is a given - to fill the gap left by Golden Boy's extensive roster Top Rank will be more lenient to working with promoters in the United Kingdom, Canada, Europe and Latin American than previously. HBO is booked to televise live coverage of Martinez-Murray/Abregu-DeCarie (Argentina), Kessler-Froch II/Bellew-Chilemba II (UK), Pascal-Bute/TBA (Canada), and Stevenson-Dawson/Lemieux-TBA (Canada) in the upcoming three months! A big Macao card featuring Zou Shiming and Viloria-Estrada was shown last Saturday morning.

Mayweather on Showtime, HBO's PPV star?

We are all aware of the sudden Showtime PPV dive taken by Floyd Mayweather for his anticipated bout with Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero May 4th. How will this affect HBO? Who will they primarily showcase on their broadcasts? Juan Manuel Marquez? Manny Pacquiao? Both? Time with reveille.

Rapido, Rapido, Rapido boxeo para Showtime!

Golden Boy Promotions luxurious stable of Mexican and Mexican-American fighters will get well-deserved publicity on the Showtime and Showtime Extreme preliminary networks - Which are remaining nearly Golden Boy exclusive if you don't render their "Shobox" series.

Promotional, Journalistic, Managerial and fanatic firefight!

Al Haymon boasts a thick Golden Boy-promoted roster known for getting dug into HBO televised bouts with "insider techniques". What will happen with his fighters? How will the media side with the promotional jabs being exchanged? What will the television networks state when asked to discuss on air? Starchy forum-fan firefights are also in the cards!

Showtime closes doors to rival promoters. HBO welcomes Dibella, Shaw, Goossen.

Showtime is known for their "World championship boxing" bills being consummated around the Golden Boy crowd. That will be emphasized even more in the coming months as the other second-level promoters wonder over to HBO. Dibella Entertainment, Goossen Tutor Promotions, Gary Shaw Productions amongst others are penciled in for more as we speak.

Bute Vs Pascal set for Canada superfight.

Canadian promotional powerhouses Yvon Michal's GYM promotions and Interbox promotions have inked a spectacular deal to match up local superstars Jean Pascal and Lucian Bute for a Light Heavyweight collision.

All the minor particulars preventing a phenominal local grudge match from taking place have been settled and an official date expected to be in late May will be announced soon.

Pascal (27-2-1 16 KO's) returned from a nearly 20 month hiatus in December to defeat tough Polish opponent Alexsy Kuziemski over a clear twelve rounds. Showing unavoidable ring rust in the process.

Bute (31-1-0 26 KO's) is known for his ability to trap opponents and counter punch with his sharply angled hooks and uppercuts, Denis Grachev lost a wide decision to him in a below par November performance. He was coming off an astonishing first loss to a determined Carl Froch when he fought an overmatched Grachev.

A stacked undercard featuring prospects from both widespread Canadian stables will be announced in the coming weeks, months.

Other news bites:
  •  James Toney heads to Melbourne to face undefeated Australian KO king Lucas Browne on April 28th.
  • J'Leon Love faces respected Puerto Rican-Philly contender Gabriel Rosado on the Mayweather-Guerrero PPV opening bout.
  • Ryan Kielczewski will likely face Jose Pedraza next, says Dibella headlining a big Shobox bill in "early summer".
  • Dirrell-Duran, Rosinsky-Gonzales almost set for big Dibella, Goosen Tutor and SMS promotions bill on April 12th.

Adama-Brewer, McCreedy-Walchuk tonight!

The stacked CFC promotions fight card at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts has something for everybody.

In the 10-round featured attraction veteran contenders Grady Brewer and Osumanu Adama showcase their world level skills in the ring with the WBC continental Americas and the IBO Inter-Continental titles on the line!

Brewer (30-14-0 16 KO's) is known as a crafty upset artist with a high ring IQ while the Ghana born Adama (20-3-0 15 KO's) is known for his slippery fighting style and unique awkward punching that makes him a tough nut to crack.

In the Co-feature the always exciting Irish-American local sensation Joey McCreedy (13-6-2 6 KO's) faces Michael Walchuck (9-8-0 2 KO's) in a surefire 8-round slugfest.

The 28 year old McCreedy may not maintain the most glamorous resume or be the most superbly skilled boxer, but he has the heart of a warrior and will not step down until someone is on the canvas. Walchuck is a tough Canadian traveling all this way hoping a win is in store.

Former world title challenger Vivian Harris (29-9-2 19 KO's), Chris Trietti (10-3-2 6 KO's) and top prospect Russell Lamour (2-0-0 1 KO) headline the quality five-bout undercard.

LOWELL, Mass. (March 7, 2013) - Local favorite "Irish" Joey McCreedy has overcome a double fracture of his jaw. For years, he's fought in the boxing shadows of Lowell fighting icons, "Irish" Micky Ward and Dicky Eklund, but now, perhaps, he faces his toughest challenge in a crossroads fight March 16 at Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell.

"CFC Fight Night" is presented by Chicago Fight Clubs Promotion. Doors open at 7 p.m. ET, first bout scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET.

McCreedy (13-6-2, 6 KOs), who is trained by Eklund, takes on Canadian-invader Michael "Flash" Walchuk (9-8, 2 KOs) in the eight-round main event for the vacant Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) US-Northeast light heavyweight title.

Amin for the vacant United States Boxing Organization super middleweight crown. The pressure is on McCreedy because he lost his last fight, also in Lowell, this past May to Shujaa El

"This fight is so important to me because, after my last fight, if I lose my career is done," McCreedy explained. "I want it bad and everything's on the line for me. I've been working hard, practically killing myself, for the past 10 weeks in camp. I don't want to look back and wonder what if, or what could have been. I've never wanted anything as bad as this fight. Weight has been a problem for me but this fight is at 175 pounds and I didn't balloon in weight after my last fight. I'm on weight now and in great shape. I'm really focused on this fight.

"Nothing could have gone worse in my last fight. We had a bad training camp without sparring and I had to lose too much weight. Anything that could go bad did go bad. I was disappointed but can't go back and change it. There's nothing worse than losing your hometown. I really wanted to win that fight but everything happens for a reason. That's why I've worked so hard for this fight; I'm ready to rock and roll. I'm going to show everybody that I still have it. Some people look at me as a loser, that I'm washed up, all done. I'm going to show them all that they're wrong. I've been working with Dicky and sparred four weeks, eight to 10 rounds every other day with Peter Manfredo, Jr., who was working for a fight coming up. Peter taught me a lot and I'm not fighting anybody as tough as Manfredo"

Walchuk is a past Canadian middleweight title challenger who has been in against Eleider Alvarez, Nick Brinson and Vladine Biosse. "I saw him (Walchuk) fight Biosse and (Thomas) Falowo," McCreedy added. "He's a tough kid who comes forward and fights. I'm not judging anybody, I learned that lesson the hard way. I'll be ready. I know that I can't lose this fight."

The 10-round co-feature matches recent world title challenger Osumanu Adama (20-3, 15 KOs), rated No. 12 in the world by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and No. 5 by the IBO, and Grady "Bad Boy" Brewer (30-14, 16 KOs), winner of The Contender II television reality series, for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Continental Americas, IBO Intercontinental and UBF Inter-Continental middleweight titles.

Last year in his last fight, Ghana-native Adama unsuccessfully challenged IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale (26-1) in Australia, dropping a 12-round decision in Geale's country. Adama's most notable victories have been over former world champion Roman Karmazin (TKO9), Marcus Upshaw (TKO4), and Angel Hernandez (DEC12). Adama is a former United States Boxing Association (USBA), USBO, and IBO International middleweight title holder.

Former World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion "Vicious" Vivian Harris (29-9-2, 19 KOs) faces battle-tested veteran Shakha Moore (11-18-3, 2 KOs), fighting out of Norwalk (CT), in an eight round bout.

Slated to fight in six-round fights are Quincy (MA) light heavyweight Chris Traietti (10-3, 6 KOs), an Iraq War veteran, against Tyler Seever (13-12-1, 11 KOs), of Saint Louis (MO); exciting Lawrence (MA) junior middleweight Eddie "Thunder" Caminero (7-7, 7 KOs and undefeated welterweight Georgia native Levan "The Wolf" Ghvamichva (8-0, 6 KOs) face opponents to be determined.

Also scheduled to fight on the undercard in four-round bouts are Chicago heavyweight Boban Simic (1-0, 1 KO) versus Boston-s pro-debuting Tyler King, U.S. Marine Jimmy Smith (0-0, 1 NC) meets Joshua "El Guerrero" Rivera (0-2), and Lowell bantamweight Mike Martin makes his professional debut in a fight with. Josh Crespo (0-2), of New Haven (CT).

All fights and fighters are subject to change.

McCreedy, Adama, Harris and Simic are promoted by Chicago Fight Clubs Promotion.

Yorgey scratches out win in war with Kennedy, Nelson outclasses Kevlishvili

King's Boxing Promotions, GFL.TV and Marshall Kauffman vowed to provide one of the best Pennsylvania cards of the year. And they did not disappoint. In the co-headlining bouts Bridgeport based contender Harry Joe Yorgey (26-2-1 12 KO's) swung his way past a highly prepared Julius Kennedy (7-4-1 3 KO's) in a world class slugfest and Naim Nelson (10-0-0 1 KO) showed his superior fundamentals in outboxing Georgian born Philadelphian Georgi Kevlishvili (12-4-1 3 KO's).

Harry Joe Yorgey may not have made a statement on an international world title stage, But he did add to his legion of followers from his native Bridgeport and suburban Pennsylvania with a close split decision win over six rounds to the game Julius Kennedy. After some mid-round adversity he managed to work his way off the ropes - literally and figuratively to edge a close win to Kennedy.

A rematch is hoped for. But the world ranked hopeful wants to get his career on the move. Yorgey always provides a brilliant show for the hardcore and casual boxing fans. One thing is certain, We'll see both men in the ring again very soon.

In the second part of this doubleheader Naim Nelson demonstrated the absolute fundamental skills and balance it takes to be an elite fighter in this game. Outworking tough Georgian-American fighter Georgi Kevlishvili over eight rounds.

Kevlishvili, a rugged 31 year old showed glimpses of hope in scattered heavy attacks to Nelson's head and body. But the inconsistency led to him dropping many seemingly close rounds and loosing fairly lopsided margins. This may have been the toughest fight and the best performance of the quick and agile Nelson's career.

Earlier on the bill Tevin Farmer (8-4-1 1 KO) used his wispy right hand and compact movement to break down Esteban Rodriguez (6-6-1 1 KO) over eight rounds. The Puerto Rican born boxer failed to utilize his rather ineffective aggression and his opponents superior movement left him debilitated of landing his heavier shots throughout.

Veterans Travis Thompson (4-9-2 3 KO's) and Joshua Arocho (3-6-3 2 KO's) exceeded expectations in a well anticipated supporting bout. Thompson showed his speed in higher volumes of work while Arocho attempted to work with heavier shots down the middle. They had to settle for an evenly disputed draw.

Samuel Omar Quinones (2-1-0 1 KO) charged through Philadelphia Korey Sloane's (2-6-2 0 KO's) lengthy reach to salvage a disputed draw in an entertaining swing bout.

Sultan Staton (1-0-0 1 KO's) made a successful ring debut frustrating Kenneth Browne (0-2-0 0 KO's) with a stoppage loss on his resume. Staton dominated the fight simultaneously chipping Brown apart physically and mentally to a lopsided stoppage loss in only two rounds.

Prediction: Bradley-Provodnikov

On Saturday night at the Home Depot Center in Carson California WBO champion Timothy Bradley makes his long awaited first defense against heavy handed Russian Ruslan Provodnikov. This is the ultimate controdiction of styles as the well skilled causiously timed Bradley faces the whole hearted reckless brawler Provodnikov. And while most expect Bradley will use his whit to outsmart Ruslan. It is very possible the best Provodnikov could overwhelm Bradley, and edge a win. Although that is unlikely. Nothing is impossible in the Sweet Science. View more on Fighthype, Saddoboxing and our Facebook page at Boxing Legends.

A more evenly matchup is found in the co-feature as evenly matched prospects Wale Omotoso, an intelligent slugger from the mean streets of  Lagos, Nigera faces solid boxer Jessie Vargas.

Tune in on HBO's Boxing After Dark from 10:15 PM EST for a doubleheader featuring Bradley-Provodnikov and Jessie Vargas Vs. Wale Omotoso in a classic prospect throwdown.

Editor's Pick: Bradley by Decision, Omotoso by Decision
